Fascinating video, this was not an advertisement, it was an introduction film for dealers to show their salesmen. First car is a Catalina two door hardtop with optional fender skirts that make it look a bit funny. Hard to tell in the poor quality video but it is either Burgundy or matador red with red interior. It has all three of the possible optional toggle switches; power antenna, rear defogger and either reverb or power flow ventilation. Standard engine in the Catalina was a 290 horsepower 400. 428’s were optional but this car lacks the fender emblems that would call out 428. Second car is a Bonneville two door hardtop. The Catalina was the cheapest fullsized model and the Bonneville was the most expensive. Interesting that this car and the Catalina (as well as the GTO) don’t have the vinyl top, it was a very popular option and extremely profitable so most advertising of the time promoted it. Color looks to be either limelight green or crystal turquoise, interior is parchment (off white). Standard Bonneville engine was a 360 horsepower 428. Third car is a LeMans convertible in Cameo white with red bucket seat interior. The LeMans was the second highest trim in the midsized line (Tempest-Custom S, LeMans and GTO). This particular car is well optioned with 4 speed, console, wood steering wheel and tilt steering along with wire wheel covers. If you look carefully you can make out the cam cover when the hood is open, making it a six cylinder OHC engine, this is confirmed by the hood tach having a 5,500 rpm redline (allV8 cars would have a 5,100 rpm redline). The basic OHC6 was 250 cid and made 175 horsepower but given the 4 speed, tach etc this is most likely a Sprint version of the OHC that made 230 horsepower thanks to a 4 bbl carburetor and higher compression ratio. Trivia point, the lovely young lady driving this car is Kelly Harmon, sister of famous actor Mark Harmon. Further trivia, within a year she married John Delorean who was running Pontiac at that time. Marriage was unsurprisingly short lived (she was 20 he was in his mid 40’s). Fourth car is a Firebird convertible with the 400 option package. Color is Carousel Red (actually orange) with parchment buckets. This car also has many options and they are highlighted in the video. Standard engine with this option package is a 330 horse 400. Fifth car is an executive safari wagon, executive was the in between fullsized model and the wagon version was called Safari (safari generally referred to wood grained wagons in those years). It appears o be Expresso brown (but could be midnight green or black) and it has a gold interior. Standard engine was the same as the Catalina, a 290 horse 400. Six and seven are intertwined, the Grand Prix is the standard J model two door hardtop in midnight green with a vinyl top in black and interior in either black or green. The GTO is a two door hardtop also in limelight green with parchment inside. The comment about the Grand Prix having a heart of a GTO is reference to both cars having a standard 400 4 bbl engine making 350 horsepower. The GTO in the video is equipped with the optional top dog Ram Air IV 400 making 370 horsepower. This part of the video being in French is a throw back to some of the first Grand Prix print ads from 1962 being in French, a gimmick to play up the European nature of the car.

I guess they didn't think anyone would notice the missing wheel cover, or the sea was getting pretty nasty, and they didn't want to re-shoot. An entire TV screen only had 625 lines back then, pretty fuzzy. In any case, the '64 commercial with the beauty queen in an Impala convertible sitting on top of a butte was legendary, and this one was like "jumping the shark". The tide pretty much engulfed the poor Chevy.
